Promoting Food Benefits for 3 At-Risk Populations

Amongst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 virus, providing access to food benefits became more crucial than ever for our most at-risk populations. However, providing benefits is only half the battle; there are many populations that need support to sign up for the benefits they qualify for.

In partnership with the California Department of Social Services, Rescue helped promote food benefits to people receiving Supplemental Security Income. Within this group, two primary populations were identified as needing additional support: people with disabilities and caregivers. The campaign also focused on a population of older adults who were resistant to receiving the benefits for which they qualify.

Following research with community members in these populations, we developed targeted messages to reach each group and encourage them to sign up for benefits. Take a look at the videos below to see how we customized the outreach for each population.
